The Much Wenlock team enjoyed a lovely afternoon at Atcham Bowling Club in the second leg of the home and away Atcham Bowling Challenge Match.

Much Wenlock had gone into the lead by 97 shots at our home leg in August so the gauntlet had been truly thrown down for the return match at Atcham on Saturday 7th September.

There is no doubt that Atcham were up for the challenge and after the first 9 games were leading by 108 shots on the day and 11 shots overall so they were on track to lift the trophy.

The last 4 Much Wenlock players didn’t know this when they took to the field so remained calm. Consequently Vera Hodgetts, Don Davies, Mel Bardsley and Tony Partridge put the icing on the cake with fine wins and got Much Wenlock over the line by a slender 25 shots to lift the trophy for the second year running.

Congratulations to both teams for a close yet friendly contest played in the right spirit and here’s looking to another close encounter next year.

Our photograph shows the two club Presidents with the trophy at the presentation.
