A lovely sunny afternoon on Saturday 9th September saw the return match at Atcham of the 2023 Much Wenlock v Atcham Annual Bowling Challenge.

This friendly challenge match between the two local clubs returned to the calendar after an absence of several years due to covid and very welcome it was too! The Atcham team came over to Much Wenlock in August for the first leg of the challenge and went down by 34 shots so they were looking for a good win against the travelling team from Much Wenlock in the return match.

Guess what.........they got it! Fine bowling by Atcham secured a victory on their lovely home green. Nevertheless Don Davies, Vera Hodgetts, Tony Howells and captain Tony Partridge won their games for Much Wenlock and helped the team to limit the deficit to 23 shots meaning that over the two legs Much Wenlock got the upper hand by a mere 11 shots so get to hold the trophy until next year.

The key thing was that the members of both clubs got to enjoy two afternoons of good bowling and good company after a lapse of a couple of years so both are looking forward to next year's challenge already.

Our photographs show the Much Wenlock team, President Don Davies with Atcham Chairman Moira Murphy and the two club Presidents Jean Brassington and Don Davies with the trophy.
