Two major doubles competitions both attracting over 20 entrants were held in recent weeks and both were blessed with brilliant sunshine despite a generally wet summer.

Sunday 14th July saw the Mixed Drawn Doubles which produced a fine display of bowling prowess. A mini consolation comp was also organised at the semi-final stage for losers from the earlier rounds so the green was pretty well full for most of the afternoon.

The final saw Peter Gyldard & Nick Mitchell triumph over Vera Hodgetts and Peter Iles although the champions had to resort to some pretty long ends to get over the line. The consolation was won by Jeremy Good and Sue Mawditt with the runners-up place taken by Julian Rudkin and Terry Yates.

On Sunday 28th July the President, Don Davies, hosted the Presidents Cup, the premier event of the summer attracting 24 entrants. The afternoon started with a Spider which saw a bottle of champagne won by Sue Partridge. The President provided some valuable prizes and after a display of fabulous bowling the Cup (and prizes) were won by Tony Howells and Sue Mawditt who saw off the all lady team of Vera Hodgetts and Marilyn Fletcher in the final. The consolation was won by Jeremy Good and Terry Yates with Peter Rigby and Ian Cohen taking the runners-up slot.

A number of members kindly provided an array of lovely refreshments which recharged the batteries prior to the finals and the President offered a free drink to everyone so an exhausting but enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
