A strong field took to the green on Sunday 4th August to compete for the Talbot Cup. The origins of Talbot Cup date back to the 19th century and it is one of the most prestigious trophies on offer at the club.

Last year, Tony Swales took the trophy at the 12th attempt and this year he repeated his success although he had a scare or two on the way. His first round battle with Wenlock Olympian gold medallist Jo Cohen was a very close run thing with only a few shots in it at the end.

The final this year was a repeat of 2023 and Tony came up against Peter Yates again. Unfortunately for Peter the result was the same as last year too with either excitement or perhaps tiredness dulling his performance to make him the “bridesmaid” yet again.

A consolation competition ran alongside the main event with Vera Hodgetts taking on Peter Gyldard in the final. After a close run thing Peter pulled away to win by a small margin.

Our photographs show the finalists with President Don Davies. The trophy used in the presentation was a replica as the real Talbot Cup is kept in the town’s museum.
